Record Store Day

This Saturday April 19th is Record Store Day. It has been designated as such due to the recent years struggle of brick and mortar record stores. For example, the beloved flagship Sam the Record Man store on Yonge has closed down last year after declining sales due to the digital media and downlaods.

On Saturday, participating stores will be celebrating the festivities with promotions and live in-store performances. For example, Sunrise Records at Yonge and Dundas will be hosting performances by with Ill Scarlett, Neverending White Lights, Sunparlour Players, Laura Barrett and more.

Sam the Record Man's original Toronto flagship store, shown in this 2001 photo, closed down in July 2007 due to declining sales.
