Easter Weekend in Toronto

Here are just a few of the many special events taking place around the city this Easter weekend. With so much going on, how will our Toronto backpackers choose?

Good Friday, April 10th:

Featuring music and poetry, Music at Metropolitan presents ‘All Creation Wept’ with the Metropolitan Festival Choir and poetry reading by Gary Brennan and Patricia Orr. Begins Friday at 7:30 pm ($20 at 416-363-0331 ext 51). Metropolitan United Church, 56 Queen Street East For something really different, try ‘The late Late Horror Show’ featuring comedic B-movie inspired improv Friday at midnight ($5). You’ll find tickets and information at 416-491-3115. 138 Danforth Avenue. http://www.baddogtheatre.com/

Friday to Sunday:

Like the outdoors and animals? The Toronto Zoo celebrates Easter all weekend long with its 20th annual “Egg” Stravaganza. There’s plenty of great events for everyone to enjoy including talks and feedings by the zookeepers, Easter treats for the animals, special daily 11p.m. animal appearances…including a special visit by the Easter bunny…and much much more! Friday-Monday 9:30 to 3:30 p.m. ($21/$15/$13). Meadowvale Road and Highway 401 East. For information call 416-392-5929 or visit http://www.torontozoo.com/.

Sunday April 12th:

Beaches Annual Easter Parade begins at 2pm and runs along Queens Street East from Neville Park to Woodbine Avenue and lasts about an hour. There’s no charge but don’t forget to bring along a loonie ($1) to donate to the local Lion’s club that organizes and marches in this great event with their Easter buckets held out at the ready to collect them. Yes, it’s a short event but you can then visit the unique shops and then head down a block to the boardwalk. Since the 1800s people have walked this 5 km stretch along Lake Ontario. There’s always lots happening from wind surfing to beach Volleyball.

None of these events appeal? Check out the http://www.toronto.com/ website for what’s on in and around Toronto this weekend – including what’s open and what’s closed!
