Everyone is encouraged to create and adopt a plan for saving energy during energy conservation week. Even those of you travelling in and around Toronto. As the advertisements say, “there must be a million ways to save energy.” The top one hundred list of course contains a section concerning travellors that comes in at number 71 to 74:
For Travellers
71 Put my indoor and outdoor lights on timers.
Don’t leave your lights on 24/7 while you’re away.
72 Put my water heater on the vacation setting, if it has one.
73 Choose green-rated hotels when travelling for business or pleasure.
74 Pull the plug on my battery chargers.
Laptops, cell phones and digital cameras always draw power if they’re plugged in.
Now, Number 73 is a great one to have included in the list, however; our to our BoD fans, I and say ‘Why not go one further and share a room with others by booking a bed at your favorite downtown hostel while visiting Toronto?’ Backpackers on Dundas has long since made their commitment to energy saving through signing up for hot water on demand and giving guests the luxury of real plates and cutlery.
You’ll enjoy yourself, you’ll further reduce your carbon footprint, and you’ll save money! What more can you do for energy conservation week…really!
