Okay, so it’s just a week away from September and a kaleidoscope of falling leaves, but there is still time to fit in some late summer fun! This last weekend of August has plenty of offerings to remind you that summer is still with us for a little while longer. Here are just a few of the festivities the city has got going the weekend of August 28-29:
The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) or the Ex, as it’s often called, is one of Toronto’s biggest annual traditions. Taking place up until Labour Day, it offers a wide variety of family entertainment, midway rides, games, a petting zoo, shopping and special events at the Exhibition Place by the Toronto Lakefront.
The Chinatown Festival brought to you by the Chinatown BIA brings the best of what Chinatown has to offer. The community street festival will have Lion Dances, folk art & entertainment, food vendors, street markets and more!
Scotiabank Buskerfest in Support of Epilepsy Toronto is the largest showcase for street performers in North America. Taking place in the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood, it features a wide range of performers, including daredevils, magicians, clowns, acrobats, puppets and many more! It’s going to be a whirlwind of fantastical performances on the streets. There is no charge for admission, as it is already paid by the festival organizers, Epilepsy Toronto. You may, however, pay the performers when a hat is passed around at the end of each performance.
Telus Taiwanfest Crossover 2010 is the Harbourfront’s celebration of all things Taiwanese. As Taiwan has changed rapidly over the years, this festival attempts to explore the concept of the modern Taiwanese identity through music, art, dance and food. Admission is free!
In case you didn’t read our last post, the Live Green Toronto Festival is happening this weekend at Yonge and Dundas Square. It’s about all things environmentally friendly. Over 100 exhibitors will display their green wares all around Yonge Street and show the city just how green we be. There will also be performances on the YD stage all day Saturday and Sunday. It’s also a free event.
The Distillery District will be hosting a free public car show entitled, Lexus Live at the Distillery. This event is the worldwide debut of the Lexus CT 200h Tour. Visitors will get to see the brand spankin’ new Lexus CT 200h as well as performances by musical acts the Stills, Paper Lions, Lily Frost and The Midway State.
With so much to do this weekend in Toronto, why not stay overnight at Backpackers on Dundas? Rooms are available at a standard rate of $24 at night.
