The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) rolls into town and takes over the streets from September the 9th to the 19th. This being the festival’s 35th  anniversary, there will be more bells and whistles than any other year. In addition to the films, red carpet events, celebrities, and fans waiting for a glimpse of their favourite stars, there will be added incentives to check out the eleven day festival.

Adding another day to its usual ten day run, TIFF will incorporate more films, premium screenings, and North American premieres to its already stunning itinerary.

The TIFF Bell Lightbox (350 King Street West, Toronto, ON), a new hub for cinematic activity, has recently been completed and will host events for the festival. According to Piers Handling, the CEO and Director of TIFF, the organization is “committed to building a centre that will lead the world in the discovery of film and the moving image… where audiences of all ages can immerse themselves in and learn about the magnificence of film.” To celebrate the event and cultivate a greater appreciation for film, Bell Lightbox will be hosting free films from festivals past to the general public on a first come, first serve basis. The schedule for free films is listed below:

Outrageous! - Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 7 p.m., American Beauty - Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 5:30 p.m., Roadkill - Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 10 p.m., Water - Friday, September 17, 2010 at 10 p.m., Away from Her - Saturday September 18, 2010 at 7 p.m., Crash - Saturday September 18, 2010 at 10 p.m., The Big Chill - Sunday September 19, 2010 at 7 p.m., The Princess Bride - Sunday September 19, 2010 at 10 p.m.

TIFF will also feature 15 galas, 35 special presentations and 25 world premieres throughout the festival. Additionally, there will be several  mini-festivals running throughout the festival, such as the Midnight Madness screenings, City to City series, the Sprockets Family Zone and the Canada First series.

You can check here for complete list of screenings and events.

Tickets run from $19.69 (including tax) for a regular screening, to $38.27 (including tax) for a red-carpet premiere. Discount bundles are also available. Tickets can be purchased either in person at 363 King W., Toronto, ON or online.

Stay close to the action by staying at the Backpackers on Dundas hostel and save some money to see some great films–and maybe a famous face or two!
